HBC Holiday Windows

Management - Strategy - Production

The holiday windows displayed at Hudson’s Bay’s downtown location is a tradition that has spanned over a hundred years. In 2019, I was fortunate enough to join the team responsible for the development and management of content displayed on the LEDs behind the physical displays. The theme for that year was "behind the scenes in Santa's workshop."

The visuals were meant to compliment the various machinery and robotics required to make Christmas the magical experience for everyone around the world.

With the help of our engineering team, I was able to determine all the technical specifications for the content such as resolution, frame rate and bitrate to ensure that it played efficiently. We had one concept that simulated a conveyor belt carrying various sized gifts. In order to loop it seamlessly, we had created the mechanism in Cinema 4D on a tight deadline. We were able to do so successfully and managed to save the client extra budget and time.

Upon completion, we produced a video highlight of the final result and the reactions of those passing by.

It's always a pleasure to be involved with something so woven into our city's history. I remember looking at the displays when I was a child and the magic associated with them, so to now have a part in its creation is truly something special.
