Between 2018-2019, Saks Fifth Avenue's flagship store in New York City underwent a US$250 million renovation project which I was fortunate enough to be a part of. This is included the installation of a beautiful LED video wall installed onto the store's ceiling that could be viewed when climbing up the multi-coloured escalator to the second-floor beauty section.
Due to the intricacy of the display, I had to help determine the best way to schedule content with the help of our engineering team. In the end, we decided to split the full image into 10 smaller pieces in order to comply with the hardware’s capabilities. Seeing that this added step could cause confusion for the client, I built a template that automates the splitting process so that they would only need to provide the image in its full resolution. Now we are able to process a number of files in a short amount of time.
The elegance and beauty of this flagship store is truly something to behold. I'm hoping that one day soon I'll have the opportunity to visit and embrace it firsthand!
